Name That Movie #28

Ordinarily I wait for James to post a Name That Movie before I post my own, but this week is so crazy with work that I figure I better post this now while I have a chance.  Hope you enjoy it.  Good luck…

Below is an image from a movie.  If you can guess the movie via that one image, do so, if not, there will be links to further images.  The second image should be more obvious, and the third image even moreso, and so on.  When you are ready to make a guess, make sure you indicate how many images it took before you got it.  Please try not to read the comments before you guess!

That said, here's the first image…

GOOD LUCK!!!

EDIT: By the way, you can recap all the Name-That-Movie posts on Unbecoming Levity, by use of this neat little page. Remember, if you don't want to wait for me to post the answer, you can always click the “I Give Up” button on the recap page.

  1. The first image had me baffled. On the second image, I thought it was either a Mad Max or a Conan, but I haven't seen much of either. Third, still baffled. Fourth, looking familiar, but I don't remember from what. Fifth, okay, I remember that kid from a Conan movie, and the sixth clinches it, but I don't remember which one. Conan the Destroyer? Definitely not the first one. I've definitely seen this movie once, but I don't remember the name.

  2. Guessed Red Sonja on #4, but I really wasn't sure until the last one. Early on I figured it was probably a Conan movie. Just not that familiar with Red Sonja and Conan the Destroyer.

  3. I guessed that it was a conan film by the 2nd image … but I wasn't sure.
I realized it wasn't a conan film by the fifth image but I just couldn't jog the title free until images 6.

  4. Okay, I am not hitting the post button twice. Maybe it's my browser, which is IE 5.1 for Mac. (I know, I know…) Anyway, on the movie I stand corrected. It is definitely Red Sonja, and I'm sure I've seen it, because I remember Sandahl Bergman in it, and I remember that kid. I thought Red Sonja was in a Conan. Obviously it made a huge impression. ;-)

  5. I expected James to get this on #4, and he did not disappoint me. Arnold's character “Lord Kalidor” was originally supposed to be “Conan”, and Red Sonja was going to be a spinoff character as a counterpart to Conan. But the movie tanked, got terrible reviews, and that was it for Sonja. The acting was abysmal, and Brigitte Neilsen got the worst reviews of all.
I figured it would be a confusing flick because Sandahl Bergman also played in Conan the Barbarian–as Valeria, Conan's lover, who is killed by Thulsa Doom and who briefly returns as a valkyrie. In Red Sonja she plays the evil “Queen Gedren”.

  6. Oh, that review is hilarious, Chuck.
You know, if it weren't for the little kid, I'd say I never saw Red Sonja, then. Maybe I'm thinking of a Conan movie, because I have some recollection of Conan getting revenge on Thulsa Doom. (If that's the guy who killed Conan's mother.) But I also have some recollection of a guy in a desert, I don't know if he's some sort of wise man or holy man. And a cult of women? Gawd, what the heck am I remembering?
Brigitte Neilsen is a horrible, horrible actress. I think pretty much in everything.

  7. Conan's Revenge on Thulsa Doom and the wise man in the desert are both from Conan the Barbarian.
The “cult of women” comes from Red Sonja. Image 3 shows their high temple where they guard the talisman that created the world, and could one day destroy it. The talisman can only be touched by women.
Conan the Destroyer, which I only saw once (because it was gawd awful), had Grace Jones in it as the quarterstaff weilding frenzy of hypertension who was inexplicably afraid of mice. I don't remember much about it, but I believe the “wise man” reprised his role in CtD, traveling with Conan. As I recall, they restored a princess to her throne, and at the end she offers Conan and his companions high offices in her kingdom, everyone accepts but Conan, who is searching for “a kingdom of his own”. Pretty sure Olivia D'Abo played the princess.
Oh heck I should just look it up. (checking IMDB entry) Yeah the guy who played the wizard in CtB–a Japanese actor named “Mako”–reprises his role in CtD. Olivia D'Abo plays the kidnapped princess. Yeah I vaguely remember this flick.
I saw Conan the Barbarian many times in my youth, but I only saw Destroyer once, and Red Sonja twice (last night being the second, an hopefully last, time).

  8. Thank you so much! I think I've seen all of those then, but they all mushed together. Bad, simple-minded movies filled with violence and drama. Mako played pretty much every Korean male part on M*A*S*H, the TV series; I could recognize him in my sleep. I think he was also in Rising Sun as the president of the company where the murder took place.

  9. Well to anyone reading the commentary, it should be obvious by now. This movie was Red Sonja starring Brigitte Neilsen, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sandahl Bergman.

  10. I got this on the first image. Obviously, this was the scene from Logan's Run where he's on the operating table in the New You Shop, looking up…
But I thought I would glance at the other pictures, just to be sure, just in case I was wrong, which of course I was.
I loved Conan the Destroyer, but that doesn't mean I thought it was a good movie. :-) Never saw Red Sonja, but from the sound of it, I guess seeing CtD was close enough. :-)
    Julie
