Test Results

Well I got a letter from my doctor today… the results of my bloodwork and EKG. I opened it with some trepidation…

Talk about a big sigh of relief!  I called the doctor up to get the actual bloodwork numbers.  My cholesterol was 207, which really should be under 200, but is pretty close to in-range.  Further, it's down from 220 when they tested it a couple years ago.

My triglycerides (sp?) are 159, which are in the normal range for me.

My LDL is 140.6 (should be below 130) and my HDL is 34.7 (should be above 40).  Not perfect… but not terrible either.

All in all good news.  Phew!

  1. Congrats Chuck, glad to hear you're getting more “normal” every day :) I also just got my blood work results yesterday. My cholesterol is 242, oops. My LDL is 161, so I too have work to do. However, my doctor is making me do some consults with a nutritionist and an exercise physiologist as well. She doesn't want to just prescribe meds right away. This ought to be good, I've been overweight for 25 years, getting rid of it is NOT going to be easy. However, now that I have two kids, I realize I need to actually put forth an effort, such as you're doing. Keep up the good work buddy, I'm pulling for you.

  2. Oh, geez, don't you hate that? I'll bet they didn't even do a pap smear. Damn doctors.
But that's all really good news… and a little scare is always good to help you get going on the right track!

  3. Hey Tom. After my pregnancy the doctors were always telling me not to expect all the weight I gained during the pregnancy to come off quickly. I took 9 months to put it on and it would take 9 months to get it off. So you have 25 years to work on it. Good Luck! :)

  4. I am glad you are doing well bud! Your cholesterol is better than mine. Although I hope to change that at my next blood test (either tomorrow or next week)
Tom, changing your diet could be easier than you think. You've already stated what is motivating you to change it. That goes a long way. Don't think of it as a diet more a change in eating habits and you'll find the weight will drop.

  5. I think I remember reading that every hour you exercise, your life is extended an hour and a half. Seems like a good investment. Also there are people who think that if you last another twenty years almost all age related problems will be overcome and people might live forever(barring accidents). I went to the doctor today and was asked if I exercised. Nope. But, my blood pressure was 107 over 70.
