Name That Movie #45

First the required nod of thanks to James for his cool Name That Movie post.  Here's mine in a new experimental format.  Good luck…

Note: we're doing something a little different this week at ULev. My job keeps me jumping so that I can't get to the computer to post images at the proper times, and sometimes I have posting issues. So today's NTM will be javascript driven and will automagically make the images available at the listed times–in the process saving me a serious hassle. Once you've got the page open, you can refresh the image links just by clicking the refresh button below, this will check the clock and enable further images as appropriate. Times displayed should be in your local timezone. (Yes, obviously you can cheat either by viewing the source, or simply changing the time on your clock.)

Oh one other refinement:  the image links will continue to function as they did before, but in addition will now replace the primary displayed image when you mouse over them.  This way you can view the images right in the article without having to open up new windows.  You may have to wait a second or two for the new image to download before it will replace the primary image.  The original primary image will return when you mouse off of the image link.

If this works, I'll be doing future NTM's this way. Please contact me if the page behaves strangely in your browser or on your machine. If the script isn't fully compatible, I'll scrap it and go back to the old method.

Below is an image from a movie.  If you can guess the movie via that one image, do so, if not, links to further images will be posted throughout the day.  The second image should be more obvious, and the third image even moreso, and so on.  Please try not to read the comments before you guess!

That said, here's the first image…

GOOD LUCK!!!

EDIT: By the way, you can recap all the previous Name-That-Movie posts on Unbecoming Levity, by use of this neat little page.

  1. Oh poo. I was afraid of that. I understand you are using a very old Macintosh system and browser. I'll post image links as comments for you today. If we can't get it working I'll go back to the old NTM format next week. Okay?
Out of curiousity is javascript enabled in your browser? If it is disabled that would explain why you can't see the image. Do you see anything at all? For example, do you see the grayed-out image links? There are a couple minor changes I can make that might make it more likely to work for you… I've got one thing in mind which I will try immediately, I'll post another comment once the change is in place.
    Anyway here's image 1:

  2. Thanks, Chuck.
I can play on James' computer, since he's not home now. I have trouble with javascripts on this machine. Your NTM script which allows the user to go through all NTM's doesn't work at all for me, either. Some scripts work. I think the browser is working from an older spec or something. Eventually I'm upgrading, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It means moving all of my stuff to another computer. Don't change things around for just me.
(I don't see anything, BTW, nadda.)

  3. Hmmmmm. A UFO Lamp, an ammeter, and what look to be some medical electric leads. None of the images look familiar, but from the darkness of the images and the context, I'll WAG that Kiefer Sutherland flick where they all try to die and come back. Flatiliners or something?

  4. Are the times showing up correctly for your timezone, bri? (i.e. 6 AM, 7 AM, etc?) Glad to hear it works in FireFox.
    Hmmm. Flatliners. Interesting guess.

  5. Flatliners is an interesting guess. Maybe “Frequency?” but the look is more “Flatliners” or “Jacob's Ladder.” Very blue.

  6. Hmm, I think Chuck was trying to fake us out with that first shot, expecting us to see a UFO when its a lamp.
The phone in shot #4 looks too modern to me to be Flatliners, but I'm not sure. ORiginally I was thinking earlier 80s but that phone has me stumped.

  7. I loved Flatliners! I don't know if this is it, though. Intriguing pictures. If I haven't seen this movie, I probably should.
I like your experiment, Chuck… funny thing is, I often have to change the date/time on my computer when I'm testing date-sensitive stuff in our software. (Not today though.) :-)
    Julie

  8. It's a fairly recent movie, I think.
The color, really implies a horror-type film. I don't know. The hand doesn't look familiar, but my guess is a fairly skinny actress. COuld be a lot of things. The Grudge? The Ring?

  9. It's funny, if I'm right I only vaguely remember the lamp. I don't remember the ammeter and I do remember that box of stuff.
But the windows looked really familiar.

  10. Both AI and “Minority Report” had lighting like this, but so do a lot of movies nowadays.
So it's tough to rely on that.

  11. I think the imagery is more contemporary that Flatliners, which I haven't seen. I do agree that this looks like a thriller and a more recent one. Metagame WAG: Panic Room

  12. LOL! Bri's metagaming is based on how much I like Jodie Foster. Thanks Bri, but it is definitely not panic room. Smart thinkin' tho… ;-)

  13. Well. I figure, I haven't seen it. So, I may as well have some fun. I doubt I'll guess it until something from the previews shows up.

  14. All of Chuck's efforts to make these images available to me, and I don't think I've seen this movie! Skinny-wristed actress operates a lot of modern machinery. :-) No idea.

  15. Here's a link.
By now I suspect anyone who still doesn't recognize this will be someone who has not seen the film. Image 9 will make it clear what it is whether you've seen the film or not, I think.

  16. Even though I'm a real fan of this movie, you had me guessing for a few images. Great job, Chuckie, it was fun!
I really should have recognized the lamp. And the box o' junk. But I wasn't sure until the windows. I didn't recognize Naomi Watts' wrist, but Chuck knows she's one of my favorite actresses.

  17. This week's NTM was of course The Ring (imdb) (amazon). A wonderfully creepy horror film with an interesting storyline that makes you think.
    Thanks for playing everybody!
