Happy Birthday Tom!

Unless I'm mistaken (always a possibility) September 18'th is the birthday of my old buddy Tom.  Now I don't mean old as in OLD.  Well… maybe I do…

He's as old as I am, in fact a little older I think.  I met Tom in the second grade (if memory serves) at Regal Park Elementary School and it wasn't too long before we, pair of holy terrors that we were, were wreaking havoc on the town of Whitman, Massachusetts.  From those early days through junior high we were inseparable, but then we went to separate highschools, and our paths in life diverged from there.

But he will always hold a special place in my heart as my first best bud.  Thanks Tom.

Who'd a thunk that nearly thirty years later I would treasure the memories of afternoons we wasted making fun of M-TV or playing D&D?

Happy Birthday, Tom.

EDIT: Now what would be really embarrassing would be to discover that I have the date wrong.  I can't imagine why 9/18 might otherwise stick in my head. Hmmm.  9/18.  918.  Nine Eighteen.  Tom?  Can you think of a reason that might stick in my head?

  1. Yeah yeah, it's today! I'm being rewarded by my family for turning 38 today by being allowed to close the pool! Such a deal eh? Also, I let my daughter have a friend over to play, they're having MacDonald's for lunch, I'm getting a bologna sandwich, methinks there is something rotten in Denmark, or at least in Hanson.
Yes Chuck, we had a helluva time growing up, torturing virtually anyone and everyone we encountered. I'll always remember playing spies in front of the Whitman Town Hall “zee geese are flying high”, oh man, the looks we got.
As for 918, I THINK I know what you are referencing, but I'm not willing to admit here publicly that I've forgotten, isn't that in reference to a specific time?

PS Although we have gone our separate ways and don't talk or see each other that much anymore, you'll always be one of my best friends. We had WAY too many fun days together screwing off to ever forget all the good times we had. Holy crap, we must have spent 1,000 days together growing up doing absolutely nothing but walking around and shooting the shit. Then, we discovered D&D, and off we went, it was a perfect way to express our creativity, not to mention our incredibly sick sense of humor.
    Thanks again buddy!
    Tom

  2. I was thinking of “Agent 918″ from when we played “Top Secret”. As I recall he spent more time in jail than actually on missions. I seem to recall driving you nuts with 918's antics.

  3. Oh yes, 918! “Hey, nice car mister!” “Get away!” followed by a hail of gunfire in the direction of a group of children! Yeah, now I remember, that was a lot of fun…sort of :)
