Our wayward maple which dropped a 30-foot limb on the powerlines a few weeks back has been removed. I added new photos to the Crash! Boom! photo album. Here's the first one:

Faint Rainbow

We had some sunshowers yesterday. I wished I was in a better spot where there wouldn't be buildings and powerlines in the picture… but rainbows are fleeting, so this is the only picture I got.

They take the tree down in sections, feeding all the small branches through a chipper.

Tricky business getting the box over the lines and back down to the branches they are trying to remove.
One Hour Later

In less than an hour, a tree that took over a hundred years to grow is gone. 
I am sad to see it go, but for the safety of all concerned, it was really the best thing to do.
One of the workmen told me it was on its as evidenced by the dead branches all over it and the rotted center of the treetrunk.
Fear the Claw

As with the box, the guy manipulating this claw had to work around the electrical lines. The tree service was only too happy to haul all this maple wood away. I bet they sell it. Ah well, they're welcome to it.
All Loaded Up and Ready to Go

The tree is gone, and the workers have raked up the sawdust, woodchips, and other detritus.
The loader operator is putting the claw down in the bed of the truck now that all the wood is loaded.
Stump

You can see the blackish brown oval of rotten wood in the center of the stump.
Well that's it! Time to bring in the landscapers!
