You've gotta be kidding me! Watch out folks, having won the nomination, Katherine Harris (the wacky magic water lady and election fix-it man) has a real chance of ending up on the Senate. What is wrong with Florida? Is there something in the water or what?

…”Tonight I say to Bill Nelson: Come home, Bill. Enough is enough,” Harris said Tuesday. As secretary of state in 2000, Harris oversaw the recount that gave George W. Bush the White House. She became a rising star in the Republican Party, parlaying name recognition into two terms in Congress…
…Harris' campaign was widely ridiculed, even by her own party. Fundraising lagged, her appearance was mocked, staff members kept quitting and she was linked to a corrupt defense contractor.
Still, she won comfortably, thanks to weak opposition and a strong base. Some 2 1/2 hours after the polls closed, the 49-year-old congresswoman arrived at her Tampa campaign headquarters to chants of “We want Katherine.”…
She does not have a chance of becoming a Senator.
In Florida, you must be registered with your party in order to vote in that party's primary. You can't walk in as an unaffiliated voter and then fill out a form to be Republican (or Democrat) for ten minutes like we do here. You have to declare your affiliation ahead of time. Only hardcore Republicans who love her would have bothered to vote in that primary (and from the sound of it she didn't have much competition). The rest probably stayed home out of apathy.
Bill Nelson (former astronaut) is worshipped as a god throughout most the state and there are very few people who could beat him. There is little danger that any liberal OR moderate voter will vote for Harris in the general election.
