The Inn

Image

The place was quite large.  The building in the foreground is the office, and behind it is the inn… all of the rooms have balconies and ocean views.

Unfortunately we didn't stay in any of these rooms.  There is a building behind the inn, a late addition in an effort to house more guests, called “The Atrium”, and that is where we stayed.

History of Boon Island Light

Image

This placque by the side of the road, explaining just what Boon Island Light was, where it came from, and the history of it and the little island it stands on.  The lighthouse has been destroyed and rebuilt four times!

Note also that it is 137 feet high and is barely visible at a distance of 6.5 miles… I think the people who are fighting Cape Wind are a bunch of whiners.  Especially the folks on Nantucket who would be nearly FOURTEEN MILES from the wind towers.

Landslide!

The marsh was eating away at the raised land upon which the forest stood, and in many places you could see the trees and forest floor sliding away.  Just beyond the trees on the left was a house at the edge of the refuge which was cordoned off with yellow warning tape.  The soil behind the house was collapsing and sooner or later the house would fall into the basin just like this tree here.
