Name That Movie #67

Watch out!  It's time for 10 images worth of Name That Movie goodness!  First image is up now, next one at 9 AM.  Last one (the gimme) at 3:30 in the afternoon.  Get cracking folks…

Below is an image from a movie.  If you can guess the movie via that one image, do so, if not, links to further images will be posted throughout the day.  The second image should be more obvious, and the third image even moreso, and so on.  Please try not to read the comments before you guess!

NTM is JavaScript driven and will automagically make the images available at the listed times. Once you've got the page open, you can refresh the image links just by clicking the refresh button below, this will check the clock and enable further images as appropriate. Times displayed should be in your local timezone. (Yes, obviously you can cheat either by viewing the source, or simply changing the time on your clock.)

The image links will replace the primary displayed image when you mouse over them.  This way you can view the images right in the article without having to open up new windows.  You may have to wait a second or two for the new image to download before it will replace the primary image.  The original primary image will return when you mouse off of the image link.

I will, as time permits, also post the image links in comments for those of you whom cannot run javascript.

That said, here's the first image…

GOOD LUCK!!!

EDIT: By the way, you can recap all the previous Name-That-Movie posts on Unbecoming Levity, by use of this neat little page.

  1. Okay. I think I know what this is. (Not Christine, but something like it.) You know why I remember this? Because the night they showed it on TV, the transmission (on channel 5, I think) was momentarily interrupted with a still of a burning cross. In retrospect this was probably just an error on their part, accidentally showing a piece of footage for the upcoming newscast. But at the time, I didn't think of that, and I thought the KKK had taken over channel 5 (or 10 or whatever). Scared the hell out of me!

  2. Well it appears I have stumped the masters! Extra credit to Julie for being VERY close.
Christine, as you know, was the movie adaptation of Stephen King's novel about a 1957 Plymouth Fury that was possessed by an evil spirit. But stories about automobiles with minds of their own predate King's novel, most famously the “love bug” films about Herbie, the loving and determined Volkswagen Beetle.
But in 1977 came this film, a story about a killer car that came out of the desert, terrorizing and killing the residents of Santa Ynez. It made a big impression on me when I saw it as a kid, and I've remembered it ever since. Unlike Christine, the car wanted and needed no driver, and thus had that weird squat look, and smooth side with no handles to open the doors. The gimme image shows the car itself, having chased the school marching band into a cemetery, but not being able to pursue them further because “the ground was hallowed”. Starring James Brolin (who two years later would star in The Amityville Horror) and Kathleen Lloyd, The Car will forever live in my memory as one of those great scary movies I enjoyed as a youngster. As an adult I can see that it's basically the same exact story as Jaws, but nonetheless, the blare of the car's incredibly loud truck-like horn stays with me. As does bit of verse in the opening credits…
Oh great brothers of the night, who rideth out upon the hot winds of hell, who dwelleth in the devil's lair; move and appear! — Anton La Vey
If you liked Christine or the classic Duel, you'll surely enjoy The Car.

  3. Never seen it. Unfortunately, I wasn't around (reading blogs) for the first (I don't know how many!) NTMs on ULev, and our obscure movie taste does not overlap. I had no idea there was even a movie called “The Car.”

  4. No, I DID get it (my next post after the Christine one). I didn't name it because I thought we were waiting for you. I didn't realize that Tom had posted at the same time.
The movie itself didn't do much for me, but the flaming cross thing totally freaked me out.

  5. BTW, I will say that I thought that, as self-driving car movies go, this one was WAY better than Christine. (The car was also a lot cooler looking.)
